I realize for North America, this posting is a bit late, since we've had snow on the ground in much of the area for awhile. And yet, it never hurts to share information.
Assuming, if you need to do this, that your sprinkler system has been blown out, as it should if you live in an area which freezes, a good idea is to disconnect the power supply to the controller.
The reason for this is because any surges you may receive, and no doubt you do, can adversely affect the controller. It is a wise idea when it is in the seasonal operation, to have a surge protector installed inline with this unit. A surge protector is cheap insurance. Although it will not likely protect against a close lightning strike. If you have a commercial controller, they are not on the lesser expensive end, and for good reason. Protecting this unit is a wise decision. If you do find you need a new controller, you can pick up commercial grade, and some retail grade units at this location.

Underground Sprinkers. Blessing Or Curse?
When someone decides to install an underground system, or purchases a house with one, they generally believe, if they have not yet experienced ownership of said system, that this will completely eliminate all watering problems. I think it's great to have that highly positive attitude! Don't you?
Unfortunately though, an underground sprinkler system is not without some maintenance and repair. For instance, if you have a zone that is not working the way it used to, or the way you believe it should, perhaps you need some professional help. Or...you may be able to get it done on your own. A little understanding of the sprinkler system can be of huge benefit to the one taking care of the system.
For instance, did you know.....that if suddenly you have a zone, or even a single sprinler on a zone, not putting out the water it should, that it may NOT be the sprinkler having the issue? You may have a tree root in that line, you may have a broken fitting underground, or you may have a valve that is not opening all the way. Or it could be, that you are running the zone at the wrong time of day. What does the time of day have to do with anything? It's actually simple physics.
If you have a neighbor who is using a moderate amount of water while you are running your system, assuming you are on a public water supply, they could be taking water which limits what you have available. It is very possible that this scenerio is a likely issue. Your water meter may be of a small enough size, or/and that your system was designed being able to use what you had available at that time, that you don't always have that amount of water available.
If you find that your neighbors are suddenly watering at the same time as you, this may be a problem. For you. You may have to switch the times you run your system, or see if you can get the neighor to switch timing. Or redesign your system. And I know you're not going to want to do that, assuming this is the only real issue you have.
And this part is not directly related to sprinklers, but I wanted to let you know, in part because the holidays are here, and people are always thinking they could use some more money; that blogging is a method of creating more cash on hand. I do a fair amount of blogs, although from this one you won't find the others. I do these because I want to, because they are on topics I know and understand, and because I profit from them. Not by selling you anything. There is a simpler way. This site will show you everything you need to know about creating profitable blogs. And bear in mind, blogs don't cost you anything. Even I learned something very beneficial to me from this site. And I'm always open to learning. Are you? This is a methodology that can help you create an added income source, with just a little bit of your free time. I invite you to check this out. My average blog takes me about 10-15 minutes from start to finish. Not bad, considering the money I make from this. Check it out right here.
